Tata Nano is the cheapest car in the world. It is the “$2500″ car. It is basically a great idea, it is a small car, economical and extremely cheap. At the moment it is equipped with an engine running on gasoline of 624 cmc which has an average of 4.3 l/100 km, however Bosch wants to put a diesel motor on Nano to make it consume even less fuel.

Such a fuel eficiency is extraordinary. It’s what anyone would want from a city car and it is perfect for the target of Tata Nano. But Tata’s partner, Bosch, isn’t stopping here and he wants to bring on the market a diesel version as well. The motor will have only one cilinder and will have a capacity situated between 550-660 cmc.

The power of this engine will clearly be smaller, maybe somewhere between 25-30 HP, compared to 35 HP now. But the diesel engine will consume even less fuel. If plans pass the ‘proposition’ faze, then Bosch would become the producer of world’s smallest diesel engine. Currently, the smallest is on Smart and has 800 cmc divided into 3 cilinders.

Unfortunately, Tata Nano won’t arrive into Europe or USA too soon, not in it’s current form that costs $2500. It is too unsecure for NCAP to let it run on the streets. It’s possible that in Europe will appear a version that will satisfy the security, but it will cost about $5000.
