Car of the masses
When speaking of science and technology and of all the development related to it, we can simply count on a number of developments that might have taken place in the past years. One of the greatest developments of the century was in fact the commercial launching of the newest car, the Nano which is also the cheapest car in the world. For approximately US $2000, if one can buy a brand new car for the family, then it is not at a bad deal.
The car is designed to be most cost efficient. The price tag on the car is such that most of the middle class family and office goers can easily afford it. to get their hands on one of these Nano’s one simply would have to spend a little extra than buying a LCD TV or a vacation for the family. So paying the price for one vacation and getting the comfort of a luxury travel with safety is not a bad deal.
Most of the Middle class families in India dream of their dream car. Nano has made their dreams come true. The car is also very much fuel efficient. So one does not have to spend much on the fuel. With the rise in fuel prices day by day, it is almost impossible for middle class families to afford fuelling their cars. Nano has a fuel efficiency of nearly 100 km in 4.5 liters, thus making it one of the most fuel efficient cars for Indian roads.
Nano was simply designed to reach millions of world’s poor and thus to revolutionize the global auto industry. But for those who are simply more technophobiac than others, Nano is a 33 PS or even 33 hp per 24 kW. A car with nearly 623 cc engine on the rear side makes the car a rear wheel drive. In other words it simply means that the car gets all of its power from the rear side. The car gives an efficiency of 4.55 L per 100 km in city and 3.85 L per 100 km on the highways. The car can also reach at top speed of 70 kmph on the highways.
With these features the car is simply expected to reach nearly one million families within its first year of launch in the market. But as we know that luxury speaks of money, so in order to make something so cheap, one need to cut down the luxury. To make Nano reach millions of poor around the world, there are certain luxuries that one needs to cut away. So features like power steering and power window or advance brake lock, can always be omiited.
These features are no use on the Indian streets. So, a standard Nano has no such features like power steering, air conditioning or even air bags. Apart from this the car still does pass all the safety features. Speaking in a much easier language, if you have the potential of half a million people around the globe, then who would simply care for the power steering or the air bags.
One of the most important feature is that the car simply fulfills the dreams of millions of people who once thought that owing a car for themselves would be impossible. The car simply sounds a boon for millions of poor people as the progress has simply certified all the organics with the new Tata nano.
