2012 Nano with enhanced features will also cost more
Price of the Nano is going to be raised come New Year. This bit of information is from sources at Tata Motors itself.
Tata Motors is coming up with a newly designed Nano next year, and the price is going to be upped by 5000 for this new model. Company spokesman however have declined to comment on this issue when asked citing that they were not responsible for the price factor of the car but just the making of the car.
For the new model there would be a new engine that is being fitted along with better interiors and the engine is something that would deliver more power while being more fuel efficient. An analyst of the domestic brokerage market stated: “The cost is going up on the material side due to rupee fluctuations. Also, the new Nano is generating good response from customers, hence it would be easy for the company to pass on the hike.”
With the working problems of the present Nano models yet alive amongst the auto consumer market, Tata Motors is replacing all the starter motors with the starter motor that is to be fitted on their 2012 model. The company is replacing the starter motor of 1,40,000 Nano units free of cost.
Tata Motors however is loathe to term this exercise as a recall. They rather have this to say, “We are just replacing the component. The exercise was started in October and has already covered 50,000 vehicles so far.”
Director of Frost and Sullivan, V G Ramakrishnan added: “Indian customers do not forgive easily. The market is anyway weak. The incident might have a short term impact on the new Nano sales.”
As far as the Indian auto market goes, this replacement drive by Tata Mottos has been the largest ever exercise ever conducted. There have been the cases of 41,000 Eitos models by Toyota being recalled for replacement of faulty inlet pipe to the fuel tank and the 72,115 units of the City Sedan from Honda Siel being recalled for repairing the faulty power window switches.
November 2011 saw a sale of 6,401 Nano units compared to 509 units that were sold last November. Taking the period of April to November 2011 , the number of Nano units sold have been 39,646 while that of last year same period the company had sold 40,976 units.
