First Tata Nano delivered to customer in Mumbai
Tata started deliveries for Tata Nanos. The first lucky chap is Mr. Ashok Raghunath Vichare of Mumbai who paid just 100,000 rupees ($3,190 NZD) for the car. The Nano took sales orders earlier this year and has been a small vehicle of large interest since it was announced in early 2008. While exceptionally cheap, other numbers for the tiny car are also impressive: the Automotive Research Association of India has rated the Nano at 4.2l/100km fuel economy, and the car produces emissions of just 101 grams of CO2 per km.
Tata Nano is expected to expand in both the European and American markets soon, India being just the first step. Tata already announced it will arrive in USA in 2 years. A Euro-spec model recently passed European crash tests and the car is still scheduled to enter North American markets at some point soon.
