Tata Motors releases update for the Nano’s ECU

Sales of the Nano may be flagging at the moment though its maker continues to remain committed to further the ownership experience of the small car. As proof, Tata Motors has recently come up with a new software update of the Nano’s Electronic Control Unit or ECU. The update is aimed at protecting the Nano’s starter assembly that is prone to wear out from over cranking after the engine has engaged. The issue has been addressed so that the new software update would not allow the starter motor to engage once the engine has started running. The company have not only started to install the ECU upgrade on its current lot of cars under manufacture but has also called all existing owners of the car to have the update installed on their cars too.
Many drivers inadvertently flick the ignition key to the start up position even after the engine had fired and started. It is also not uncommon for the driver to try re-starting an already running engine.
Patch S18/19 is the name of the software update that Tata Motor is coming up with for its Nano car. Car makers all around have also already started on a similar endeavor to ensure drivers cannot start the starter assembly even when the ignition key is turned to the start or cranking position once the engine is already running.
