Tata Motors still far from settling down with the Nano
When Tata Motors had launched the Nano, the world’s cheapest car, it had hoped it has a sure fire success at hand. However, that things proved to be a faux pas is all too well known. What is most interesting is that Tata Motors has struck gold with its overseas acquisition – Jaguar Land Rover, something that many of its previous owners including Ford have failed to, it bare basics Nano is yet to settle down in the market.
The proprietor of Tata motors, 73 year old Ratan Tata, is often interrogated about Tata Nano. With the growing needs and wants of common people and keeping the inflation in mind, Nano was priced Rs. 1, 00,000 for the basic model. Though Ratan Tata with his team were expecting a grand success especially because it’s target customers are lower income buyers, that the going will be tough for the compact car become evident soon thereafter. It can be mentioned here, the Nano has been Ratan Tata’s dream project.
Though Nano is being driven into the depths of despair, Jaguar Land Rover is contributing to the Tata Motor’s profit to a great extent. Nano’s downfall is contributed to many factors. The pace of production was delayed to quite a great extent due to land disputes followed by a very weak dealer base and other legal issues. Nano’s pyromaniac problems have added to the misery. What remains to be seen now is whether the launch of an updated version of the Nano as well as a Diesel version brings the Nano back into the thick of things.
