Tata Nano Diesel may sport a new exhaust layout
The Tata Nano Diesel is touted to have a range topping fuel efficiency of about 40 km to a litre, which alone is reason enough to track its development closely. Of course, details are scarce at the moment and the only bit of news that has come to the fore and which is believed to have originated somewhere within Tata Motors itself is that the exhaust system to be fitted on the diesel variant would be different from that on the petrol driven Nano. Tata has been testing a Nano, but it is the petrol version every day in and around Pune. No visible signs of the diesel version could be noticed on this car.
The exhaust would be placed towards the side rather than the rear of the car in the diesel version, which is supposed to give better heat dissipation action. It would also entail a newer design of the bumper. There are no photographs available of what the car would look like with this newly designed exhaust.
The engine that would be fitted on the Nano diesel would be the unit that is currently owering the Tata Indica though after having being modified to an extent. The Tata Indica has a four cylinder 1.4 liter diesel unit. The Nano engine would be turbocharged 700 cc and have a common rail injection system for the delivery of fuel. The engine is expected to have a capacity of 40 kmpl and is supposed to be one of the best engines as far as efficiency goes.
