The Nano evolution
That the Tata Nano has failed to live up to the initial hype is all too well known. Its sales have rarely matched the huge celebrations and discussions on television and newspapers that the ultra cheap car started out with. It never proved to be the revolutionizing agent for not only the Tata’s but also the automobile industry of India in 2009 that it was hoped to be. Experts around the country and everywhere else have given various reasons for the failure of the car. To cope up with the decline in sales Tata has unveiled a newer version with more color options, luxurious interiors and a revamped engine.
When asked about the Nano fiasco, most experts around the country have mainly held its pyromaniac issues responsible. Then there has been series of Nanos catching fire which hasn’t done the small car any good. Fernsainz Rodrigo, the editor of the journal Autobild said, “With the advent of social networking sites rumors of this kind spreads like wild fire.” Problems other than the pyromaniac ones have also been reported such as a noisy engine, little space for luggage or long waiting lists. While some others have stated the fact that even though the vehicle is specially designed for the low-income consumers, the price of U.S. $2,500 to the current change in rupees is still unaffordable for many in the country.
The director of operations at Tata Motors said that the upgrades introduced in the new 2012 Nano are made keeping in mind the views of various users from around the world. The latest features include an even more powerful engine than the older one of 38 horsepower. The company also boasted that it would not make much noise as well as the earlier one. Worth remembering, the maker of the Nano is also famous for such famous British luxury marques such as Jaguar and Land Rover.
