Tata Nano sales shows signs of improvement, 7,466 units sold in December
The launch of Tata’s product Nano was a subject of many speculations. There have been no dearth of rumors, claims, theories and so on ever since its release. The small wonder was expected to bring huge success and fame to the company. The car even though had decent sales around the country could not match the expectations. The sales were higher than the sales of veteran models like the Alto.
The fact that not many like to forgo their bike rides for the cheapest car of the world may be one of the reasons for the failure of the car. The pyromaniac problems related to the car might have added to the problem too. An overall poor image has been created already while security of the passengers is another matter of concern.
After seeing all the areas where the company really needs to work on, it has already started taking necessary actions to stem the rot. The upgrades made in the car would actually make it more secure and powerful. The list of the upgrades includes 624 cc engine which has gained 3 horsepower and additional torque 3 Nm. Though the upgrades are not that appreciable but are quite enough for a car weighing 600 kilograms.
The updated version of the car would now feature emissions that are below 100 gms/km. Fuel consumption has come down too while additionally, in order to lure the folks, front stabilizer bar and hydraulic brake have also been updated.
The exhaust would no longer have a howling sound that likened it with three wheelers and hence led many to shun the car. The color range has been widened with more exciting options made available while the wheel covers have been revised too. Consequently the meager increase in the price — about INS 1,500 — has been justified so that the car would now cost about 1980 Euros or $2,670.
Now to the point where all of the above eventually boils down to: sales. Tata Motors has been able to sell 7,466 number of Nanos in the month of December which the company claims is up ‘by 29%, compared to 5,784 nos., sold in December, last year.’ The December sales figure has also been an improvements over the corresponding November figures of 6401 units. So it seems all of the hard work from Tata Motors is paying off though surely they would have been asking for more.
